Our Mission
To provide the highest quality cosmetology, barbering, or esthetics education while maximizing our students' natural talents and abilities. We prepare students to become a valuable resource in their occupation and encourage self-growth, motivation, and professionalism. Our highly skilled instructors have many years of experience in the hair and skin care industry and provide valuable hands-on training in a small-class setting — giving every student the maximum educational experience and a solid foundation for entry-level positions in competitive workplaces.

Admissions
A personal interview is required of all applicants to determine interest, financial need, and ability to benefit from our training. To be accepted, applicants must meet the following requirements:
All programs are taught in English. Minimum standards of English proficiency are required. ADC does not accept Ability to Benefit (ATB) students.

Most students combine one or more of these options to make their education affordable. Financial aid can cover up to 100% of tuition for those who qualify.
Full-tuition Federal Title IV Financial Aid for those who qualify. ADC is eligible to participate in Federal Title IV programs including Pell Grants and Direct Loans.
A no-interest monthly installment payment plan through ADC — up to 11 months, depending on program length.
ADC is approved by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education for most Veteran Education Benefits for those who qualify.
The Hutchins Grant (for families with multiple children in post-secondary education) and Good Student Merit Awards ($500 Cosmetology / $250 Barbering) for qualifying students.

School Policies
The full catalog contains complete details on all policies. Here's a summary of the most-asked-about topics.
Students must maintain a 70% cumulative attendance rate and a 70% written grade average, evaluated at set intervals. Grades: 90–100 Excellent, 80–89 Very Good, 70–79 Satisfactory.
Complete all program hours, coursework, and tests. Cosmetology & Barbering students must pass the State Board test at 70%+. Graduates receive a Diploma (Cosmetology/Barbering) or Certificate of Completion (Esthetics).
Students are expected to attend per their contracted schedule. All Saturdays are mandatory. Written documentation is required for excused absences. Specific late-pass and clock-in rules apply.
ADC accepts transfers from other approved schools (70%+ test scores, curriculum alignment, skills review). Re-entry within/after 180 days has specific requirements and a $100 re-entry fee.
Students may request one LOA (minimum 14 days, maximum 180 days in a 12-month period), pre-approved in writing by the Financial Aid Office.
A fair and equitable settlement applies to all cancellations/withdrawals, with refunds issued within 45 days. Refund amounts are based on the percentage of scheduled time completed.
